MEDIA IN AMERICA

This chart above is analyzing the level of trust Americans have in modern media, provided by THE American Press Institute. You see, throughout the past decade, many Americans have begun to question the credibility of mass media due to President Trump's "fake news" tangents and the political polarization of modern-day socialization. One pattern that can be identified (looking at the left columns) is a general lack of faith in general "news media" from Republicans compared to Democrats. I mean, only 14 percent of Republican's think that news itself is moral, while 41 percent of Democrats believe the news is moral. There is also a baffling statistic showing that only 18 percent of Republican's believe the news cares about the people they report on compared to the 33 percent of Democrats.

This is most likely due to the majority of news sources being more so on the Democratic/Liberal political spectrum. Below there's a chart depicting major news sources and their audiences. You can see that the majority of sources lie on the liberal side of the political spectrum. Why would the Republican's have faith in information that's built-in favor of a population that doesn't them?

You can also see that for both Republicans, Democrats, and Independents they have a general trust in the media they watch more than news media in general. For every single question, no matter what it was, they have more faith in what they watch. This is because people tend to believe things that align more with their beliefs. Looking at the data we can see the overwhelming sway in trust that is in favor of people's preferred media.
  • 128 percent MORE people believe their news is moral!
  • 88 percent MORE people believe their news is willing to admit mistakes!
These numbers show just how skewed people's trust in news that leans in their political views favors is.
